Stage Sixteen

Last night was a blast. Yours truly clearly hasn’t lost any of the magic. I managed to score three times at the soccer last night and didn’t even end up getting a run. What a great night out though and a top distraction for all the boys. We all needed it after the relentless pace of this years tour. There have been records set left, right and centre. There’s no question though the drinking has taken its toll.

Today’s stage was a little crazy as no one wanted to let a break go up the road, but when they did get away, it was all about giving another Frenchman a victory so that they feel important and continue to support a sport that they really aren’t that good at.

The other talking point, (besides Webber’s missus) was of course when Andy Schleck stopped on the final climb and Contador took an opportune moment to attack. Well, the media have got this one all wrong. Firstly, the reason Schleck stopped was because he went for another “track stand”, the same as what happened yesterday with Contador.

Voekler could not wait

"Turtleing" for much of the descent, Voekler could not hold any longer atop the winners podium

He was so focused on getting the bike completely still to let Contador to the front, that Alberto didn’t even notice and thought he must have got around the next bend, so he tried to catch up. When Alberto realised (very quickly) that Andy had stopped, he clearly slowed and all he did was follow Menchov’s attack as CLEARLY shown in the video evidence. If you watch the clip carefully, there’s no way he could have known Schleck had indeed stopped when he had to ride on the grass on the inside to get around him. Further, as soon as he realised Schleck had indeed stopped, he clearly stops as well and simply follows Menchov’s wheel as any cyclist should do, riding tempo waiting for Schleck to rejoin.

I had a solid finish today and was happy with my ride. I hardly had to use the engine at all.

Stage 16Tomorrow is another day… NOT! It is the queen stage on the tour and there are four VERY tough climbs to contend with. Johan intends to pass the time by writing a screenplay for Hollywood about the life of Lance Armstrong. As cycling doesn’t seem to have a strong enough appeal to the masses, Hollywood has requested the script is given a few action sequences. Thus Bruce Willis has been cast to play the role of Lance Armstrong and the movie is set to be called, “Livestrong, Die Hard”. I’m go to go for some solo stage glory and attempt to get into an early break, then cheat my way to victory.
